I often take on the role of artist as diplomat, since a recurring characteristic in my paintings is bringing together various factions.

Here I enter into relations and negotiations by combining disparate images and symbols with unpredictable associations.

Using both figurative and abstract elements, I form a suggestive but not precisely decodable puzzle. In questioning how we arrive at meaning, my intention is to create mystery, which triggers curiosity and challenges the unreliable presumption that answers simply lie in connecting the pieces. Frequently, I use layering as a device to weave my concerns with contemporary symbols, to form a visual language which speaks about aspects in our world. Unlike the usual diplomat, I do not insist on resolve. I am interested in navigation as subject matter.

My methodology consists of both a systematic process and improvisation: The opposition between expression and control, and that dynamic between the dualities.
