Platinum Print from 4×5 Negative
14″ x 14″ x 1″

Fascinated by the natural world around me for most of my life, I seek to bring that perspective to the viewers of my fine art photography. I have found that black and white photography has the ability to express strong feelings about a subject and the enhanced detail produced by a large format camera further that interest.

For many years, I have been interested in the old photo printing technique of “Platinum Printing”, first patented in 1873. With the introduction to digital negatives, I am able to improve my negatives and enlarging them for making contact platinum prints in various sizes without losing the sharpness of the original image. Thou the process is time consuming, the results are outstanding.
In the last few years, I have begun to take my photographs into the color world. I recoat the platinum print with Gum Arabic to selectively accent features of the image. In addition I have venture into relief printmaking using my large format negatives as subject matter.
