This current body of work portrays my personal interactions amongst nature. The sculpture, Cycles, depicts the life cycle of a succulent called a lithop. This piece consists of multiple lithops in various stages of life, reinforcing the understanding of how precious and short lived life can be. Super Bloom, was inspired by the eruption of wildflowers we had earlier this year. This fascination inspired people to reconnect with nature by hiking out to the hills to see the poppies. Star Gazing was created after visiting Joshua Tree to view meteor showers. Living in suburban cities expose us to skyscraper skylines and light pollution, which prevent us from seeing the skies in their natural state. Lying under the desert night sky was revitalizing and reminiscent of how our ancestors would view the same night sky. These sculptures highlight the significance of having an interaction with the natural world, in hopes to evoke a desire from the viewer to reconnect with nature before it is gone.
